Farm CO2Sink project focuses on comparing the carbon sequestration potential of different land uses in Piacenza province. The project compares conventional farming practices with high environmental impacts to sustainable management systems aimed at reducing carbon footprint. Conservation practices involve minimizing inputs to sequester carbon in agricultural soil and decrease greenhouse gas emissions across the production cycle. In the Po floodplain, the project aims to demonstrate a positive carbon balance through sustainable soil management and perennial biomass cultivation. This balance is maintained not only during cultivation but also after reverting to arable land, ensuring continued carbon sequestration. In mountainous areas, the project anticipates a significant reduction in carbon footprint through life cycle assessments for alternative products like thatched houses and wood furnishings derived from biomass and harvested wood products.
