Efficient Use of Renewable Fertilisers

Livestock manure is converted into sustainable fertiliser through anaerobic digestion and microfiltration, then applied via fertigation using subsurface dripline or sprinkler systems, saving irrigation water and reducing chemical fertiliser use, ammonia emissions, and nitrate leaching.

Detail description

The operational group SOS_AQUA aims to advance and promote sustainable agricultural techniques associated with the use of "renewable" fertilisers derived from slurry and digestate treatment. The goal is to enhance the efficient use of existing nutrients on farms while reducing reliance on synthetic mineral fertilisers. Three innovative agricultural systems were evaluated and compared with agronomic trials from a conventional agricultural system: traditional soil management, chemical fertiliser input, conventional application and sprinkler irrigation.
