DRYAD

DEMONSTRATION AND MODELLING OF NBS TO ENHANCE THE RESILIENCE OF MEDITERRANEAN AGRO-SILVO-PASTORAL ECOSYSTEMS AND LANDSCAPES (DRYAD)

Acerca del proyecto

Mediterranean agrosilvopastoral ecosystems (MAEs), such as Spain’s Dehesa and Portugal’s Montado, are vital for local communities and economies, but they are threatened by climate change. Droughts, wildfires, and high tree mortality pose severe risks to these landscapes. Addressing these challenges requires local solutions and transformative approaches to build climate resilience. Local communities and authorities need support to adapt effectively. In this context, the EU-funded DRYAD project aims to tackle these issues by developing and implementing climate-resilient, nature-based solutions (NBS). Focusing on regions such as Andalusia, Alentejo, and Sardinia, DRYAD will test innovative NBS, later transferring successful solutions to additional regions. By engaging local authorities, stakeholders, and citizens through Living Labs, DRYAD seeks to create sustainable, adaptable practices.

Detalles del proyecto

The project

DRYAD, a Horizon Europe project running from 2024 to 2028, will contribute to the Mission Adaptation to Climate Change by developing and implementing real-life, climate-resilient nature-based solutions (NBS) for Mediterranean agro-silvo-pastoral ecosystems (MAEs).

The project integrates cutting-edge scientific, technological, social, and business innovationswith transformative solutions, supporting a multi-level, cross-sectoral, integrated, and adaptive management governance through the development of Decision Support System.

Demonstration and replication regions

The project will be centered around development, testing and demonstrating nature-based solutions in 5 Demonstration Regions (DRs) and will be transferred to 3 Replication Regions (RRs).

Objectives

DRYAD aims to provide tools and implementation guidelines to promote sustainable and climate-resilient practices and facilitate regional adaptation plans

With the long-term view of protecting MAEs from climate impacts and extreme conditions, DRYAD Project aims to implement real-life, climate-resilient nature-based solutions (NBS) for MAEs. These solutions will be developed, tested and demonstrated cooperatively with all the relevant actors in 5 different demonstration regions. Achieving regional and citizen mobilization in co-creation, co-implementation, and co-validation processes will lead Dryad to accomplish the creation of real, widely re-applicable solutions with long-lasting impacts.
